I was asked by a new customer in Anlaby if i could install a new footpath to run alongside there current block paving path. After going down to discuss with customer it was decided that they would go for standard 450mm square paving slabs. They decided on a paver from MKM in Anlaby, A Stretton in Red.
The path was going to be 2 slabs wide along one edge and one slab wide on the other. I measured length of path and ordered pavers. I also ordered 15 bags of sharp sand and 2 bags of cement.
Method of Installation.
1- 2 Slabs were laid on the grass at each end of the grass and a string line was used to mark the edge of path.
2- Turf was then removed using a sharp spade to a depth of approx 3″, using string line as a guide.
3- Base for pavers was then mixed, 6 parts sharp sand to 1 part cement. This was mixed dry and spread out using rake over soil to a depth of approx 2″.
4- Working from one end paving slabs were layed ensuring they were level with existing path at one side and grass on the other. A gap of approx 12mm was left between slabs. A spirit level was used to ensure slabs were level.
5- With the shape of the garden there were some tricky corners to negotiate. These were cut out using an angle grinder with a stone cutting disc.
6- To finish off path, a dry mix of 4 parts sharp sand and 1 part cement was mixed and swept into all the joints. A fine sprinkle of water was then poured over slabs to bet joints in.
